Pain - Spoke Too Soon
So I was complaining about my eyes but it turns out this weekend became killer for my husband. His wisdom teeth have been growing and poking out of his upper jaw for 7 years now. Due to lack of insurance we can excuse the first 4 years of this. However, his fear of needles and lack of trust in doctors is the reason for the last 3. I've urged him many times to go get it down and I had mine taken out just before our wedding.
This weekend, I found him awake on Saturday morning already awake by 8am. This is a phenomenon that really doesn't happen on a Saturday morning with him. He had already called 5 dentists to see if anyone could see him about his wisdom teeth and had managed to get a hold of one for an afternoon appointment. If Andrew calls up the dentist, that means it's REALLY bad.
All was well except for one cavity and the 2 culprits who needed to come out. He scheduled the extraction for the end of the week and went about his business.
On Sunday it had become so unbearable that late at night we called the dentist, asked for a referral to any oral surgeon who would do an emergency extraction for Andrew. This morning he got the call and was given an appointment for not one, but both. Thank goodness!
The oral surgeon ended up being featured in a magazine as one of the best in America. Funny enough, it turns out he's Canadian and a huge hockey fan! He and Andrew ended up talking hockey talk for a good 15 minutes in the pre-op and then again through the actual proceedure. When you talk hockey, I guess that's better than the anesthesia for my hubby.
He's resting at home now, slightly swollen, loading up on ice cream, rice porridge, mango lassi, jello, and playing a pluthra of video games. Pain can pay off at times eh?
