Smart Happenings

I am loving my new car very much and have been zipping back and forth from place to place in it. Many interesting things have happened since getting it...

A security guard who was patrolling a place I was parked at came up and knocked on the passenger window. I thought I had parked illegally or something. "Excuse me miss, I just wanted to ask you a few questions." "Yes?" I answered sheepishly. "How many miles to the gallon do you get with this car?"

Everyone has asked if it could be stolen just by lifting it onto a pick-up truck or something. I reported yes because 4 grown men could definitely lift it up. That's why I got LoJack on it! A friend, Claire D, said she's like to have a go herself at lifting it - I'm sure she could to be honest!

I was parked on the street at night and went into Whole Foods to do some grocery shopping. I came outside to find two people right up against the car with their hands cupped over their eyebrows, looking into the car and talking. I unlocked the car with the remote which rightly startled them and they backed away trying to be discreet. I smiled and said hi instead and they proceeded to ask about the car and wanted to sit inside too.

I was pulling out of downtown SF and stopped at a light. A car was waiting for the light next to me and after some pointing and staring, the girl in the back passenger seat proceeded to pull down her window and took a photo of the car (and me).

A driver on the highway slowed down next to me just to point and look at the car. Needless to say, he almost got into an accident because of that.

This kid at our corps, David, a very cute and chubby little guy, chased after me in the parking lot as I was driving out to leave. When I stopped for him and rolled down the window, I asked him what was up. Panting for breath, he said, "I - just - wanted - to - say- I - like- your- car." I offered him a ride back to the corps entrance because it was just too cute and he happily obliged.

A woman on a bike pulled up next to me while I was waiting for a light to change. She screamed, "Hey!" I looked up and then she gave me an approving thumbs up sign for my car. Then the crossing guard joined in and gave me the thumbs up too.

Worst thing though - I love to sing outloud to my music as I drive. It's theraputic and I've always got a song in my head anyway so it really works out perfectly. Of course, I have on occassion been caught doing this by the onlookers next to me on the streets or highways but rarely. However, NOW, people are looking at the funny little car next to them and wonder what kind of crazy person would be driving this. Of course, they find that the owner and driver is singing at the top of her lungs and bobbing her head to the beat. This has happened umpteen times in the past month.

I can do one of two things. Stop singing and dancing and just drive. OR Just continue on with my personal karaoke and accept that people are going to see something that will make them keel over laughing. I think I'd rather keep the masses entertained n'est pas?
