To Toronto & Back
I’d love to say that traveling is easy for me but it seems that it gets crazier and crazier all the time! I was given the chance to go back to Toronto because I had to change my R1 Visa at a Port of Entry (Pearson). 6 crazy days and 5 sleepless nights was the result. I was happy to get to see as many people as I did while I was there but I must confess, it would have been better if I had more time – I just felt so rushed!
Thankfully the customs stuff went much more smoothly than the last time. Maybe because I was in my S.A. uniform. Maybe because it was just and amendment to the existing R1. Maybe because I wasn’t sobbing uncontrollably from just being separated from my family. Maybe that last reason makes me look like an emotional child.
Things I hate about traveling:
The way my back and neck hurt after being on a plane for more than 2 hours.
Taxi-ing – Why must the planes wait for so long to take-off or dock? It gets my hopes up and then completely crushes them.
The person sitting next to you who has had 2 shots of whiskey and is now sleeping on your shoulder with his stinky, boozy breath in your face for the next 12 hours (oh yes, this happened on my way back from Korea).
The ridiculous prices in the airports.
Grumpy & angry customs officials.
The crazy sprint you do to catch your connecting flight at the terminal on the total opposite side of the airport.
Weight limits on your baggage.
The lack of time you have with people & places.
The time it takes for my body to snap back into my time zone.
My bill when I return – yikes!
Things I love:
New places, things, people, food.
Getting lost – and finding my way back again.
The new Air Canada planes outfitted with a touch media screen for every passenger.
Cherishing the minutes as they fly by.
Conversations with random people – I had some interesting talks with some people about my trombone & guitar case full of Flaming Hot Cheetos this time around to Toronto. I also sat next to a Kenny Rogers impersonator on the way back!
I can find some of the weirdest things in stores & shops – like the ridiculously huge sized chocolates (Toblerone especially) in the Duty Free shops
Bumping into people – I saw my grade 3 teacher at the airport as I was leaving – funny because a few days earlier I was wishing I had more time so I could drop by to say hi to him.
Take-off & Landing – Some places are just beautiful from the sky – SF is for sure!
Proud to be Canadian – people love us!
