Rain Rain Go Away
Well, since I've been out in Cali, it's been raining on and off quite a bit. I'm told that this is a rare occurence and then of course, everyone tells me that I must have brought the weather with me from Canada...Hardy har har.
Work has begun and now I'm ending my second week here at the social services office. Things have been up and down and there has been quite a bit of miscommunication over the past 4 months before I got here.
You see, the original officers got a new appointment in May and moved out of Sunnyvale then. The Korean Corps got the OK to move into the then-empty corps but the new officers didn't want to have anything to do with the social services side of things, even though they were being run out of the same property. Those officers then decided to leave and become missionaries so new officers from the Alaska Division moved in when July hit. It's been an utter mess since becuase what was lost in transition is now creeping out slowly and we're all learning the hard way.
I really like the new officers though. We hit some rough spots just trying to clarify what my roler here is but now that we're on the same page, it's great. Captains James and Joyce Lee are quite young and are eager to work not only for the church but for the Sunnyvale community too. I know our immediate roles are not as social workers but this is the Salvation Army and it is Heart to God, Hand to Man (our sign says Hand to Men - hahahaha...Koreans always have a way of changing English).
I feel like God's trying to stretch me here and although I'm scared, I'm looking forward to the growth. Growing pains always suck though don't they?
I'm going to my first church cell meeting tomorrow night. Woo! This is kinda big because before I was married I was considered a kid and did not participate in the cell group bible study. Now I'm fully an adult (ok, please hold back the laughter) and have to sit through my first Korean bible study. Oh my goodness... at least I'll be better off than Andrew! He's hoping to sneak away to play Guitar Hero!
