Kristen & Christine

My sister's back from down unda - Australia that is. So going to the airport at 11:30pm, Terminal 1 at Pearson International was mandatory. The last few times Kevin and Kristen have travelled, I've been late to pick them up and I've recieved a lot of yelling from them - this time I was on time! Fortunately, Kristen's flight was delayed by 30 minutes.

Fortunately? Yes, fortunately. Dismayed and knowing I'd have to wait at least another hour for Kristen to get out and I'd have to sit twiddling my thumbs - I looked up only to see a familiar face. Christine MacMillan - the previous Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army's Canada and Bermuda territory!

OK - to many of you, you're thinking...what? To me being very Army Barmy - this was great. You see, upon meeting Christine many years ago and getting to know her and her passion for social justice, outreach, carrying on Jesus' ministry through the Salvation army - has been enlightening. I have been blessed to hear her speak, to work with her and to just have some really great conversations that have strengthened and stretched me in my faith. I know she's a busy person but she did remember me! Christine MacMillan has now been stationed in New York City - Manhattan - working for the Salvation Army's International Headquarters as the International Director for Social Justice. COOL EH?

She was just in Toronto for a meeting over the weekend and was going to discreetly go back to New York but I was so happy to see her. She too was waiting for some friends (another S.A. Officer's family - the Smarts) who were delayed in getting back from Australia too - so funny. God's great like this because I never got to say congrats to Christine and I really wished that I could see her before she moved but never got the chance. Instead I helped dad by sewing the buttons as the finishing touch on her S.A. uniform tunic. =)

After an hour of catching up and waiting, the Smarts and Kristen both emerged. We said our goodbyes but I have a feeling we'll see each other again. By the way grandma, she sends her best to you and told me that you are a beautiful pianist =)

Kristen is back and with a load full of Aussie candies and goodies - not to mention a bung accent. We'll see how long it lasts! It seems like all is well and back to normal - well, everything except for the big gaping holes where my wisdom teeth used to be - rice is not the recommended food to eat - that's for sure!
