Updates, Good-byes and More Blessings
After the wedding dress story I haven’t had a chance to write. Oops!
Right at the time of that timeless fabric being found, I also got an extra surprise from the car dealership. My car’s engine was seriously messed up and I took it in and asked if it was covered under warranty. The dealership mechanic clearly told me that it was not covered and he’d let me know how much it would cost. Later on he called to tell me what was wrong and how it was fixed and that it was ready for pick up. What was the damage? $0. It turned out that I had some sort of extended warranty – yay!
Lizzie Armstrong of RWR fame has released her book! Alongside that, we celebrated and fundraised at the Home of the Sister of Notre Dame in Waterdown (close to Hamilton). It was a day of walk/run – athon, dance-a-thon, card games and just full out fun. Kevin came with me to keep the dancers motivated. I was happy that he took time out of his weekend to do it, even if it wasn’t easy on his feet – he had a dance gig that night! Liz’s book is available now at Chapters & Indigo but if you’d like to buy it from her directly, just let
me know – 101 Ways to Prevent Cancer - $25 each and proceeds go to funding cancer prevention conferences and print. P.S. My mom’s photo is on one of the first few pages – Liz had been inspired by mom to fight this fight and I’m thankful for her passion to see it through. Also, thank you to all those who have sponsored us over the past 3 years.
The 6:14 Ignite team came over for a BBQ Tuesday night. They have been an inspiring, loving and downright fun group to be around and they’ve been coming every other Sunday to give us a hand at the Korean Corps. They give a year to get a life – basically taking one year, paying a tuition, and living down in the Regent Park area where they serve in areas which their gifts are best used for ministry. Although some will be sticking around in T.O., it was the last time that they’d be with us as a team so we busted out the kalbi and kimchi in true Korean tradition - followed by a rip-roaring game of Mafia - Hehehe.
Grace will be heading off the U-of-T to start law school in September. Kingsley is staying in Toronto/Brampton/New York until October, and Steph will be going back to Australia in July =( All the best to them! Fiona (head of the Ignite program) & Matt (officer candidate & Fee’s fiancĂ©) will be sticking with us over the summer – yay!
Allison, Vanessa, Stephanie – also leaving – Girls that I’ve known since they came to Canada 7 years ago I think – I remember choosing English names for the gals too. Actually, they’ve left this morning – I’m all choked up about it but I shouldn’t be – they’re going to be living 10 minutes away from me in California! They’re sad, I’m sad, We’re all sad about the move. Also, another couple from our church (Brian & Michelle) will be moving to California – and will be close by us too. They’re leaving in July but Michelle was supposed to make my wedding cake for me – she’s left me in good hands but it’s just not as sentimental I suppose. To top that off – my ring boy and his family are moving to Korea – In two weeks. I’ve known him since he was just a bump and now he’s leaving at the age of 4 =( Aiyah…
Wedding plans are going as usual – crazy and now it’s really crunch time. Invites are a little behind but should be ready soon. Honestly, if I didn’t have Jude to help me out with this stuff, I’d be lost. She’s a designer extraordinaire and a wonderful friend and a beautiful person who will tell me exactly what I need and what I don’t need so I don’t get the short end of the stick. The invites are going to be beautiful – Jude did such a beautiful job on them! P.S. why is there so much selection for Tuxedos? I vote for one standard style across the board so that no one has to make decisions between black single breasted 3 button or black single breasted 2 button.
Judy, my flower girl, turned 4 and I went to her birthday party on Friday night. We ate like pigs – and we ate pigs (Korean style bacon is so yummy) – and pretty much passed out on the couches and chatted until 2am. I’m so happy that this family is moving to my neck of the woods – although it only gives us a month and a half together before I move out to Cali. This family is such a blessing and they truly walk with Christ. I can only hope that I can raise my family to be like them one day.
C’est tout for now. I’ll try to update more frequently so that you don’t end up reading essays rather than blurbs. And for all you who are lurking (reading and not commenting) – comment! So far I think I just write this blog only for my grandmother – she actually emails me her comments, sweet ; )
