Rally #2
So I spent the last weekend in Hanford & Merced - basically the central valley of California. Thankfully the weather was sunny and breezy rather than the usual dry desert heat that overtakes that side of the state.
It was my second time going to both corps and I quite enjoyed myself, even though I was there for work. Actually, I quite enjoy my work too so it works out doesn't it? We had a huge SAY Rally (Salvation Army Youth) in Hanford and the kids had a blast. How could they not? We had a giant inflatable water slide and dual inflatable slip n' slides - I don't think I'd want to go home if I were them either. I then headed to Merced for Sunday service and evening World Service Ingatherings. I led worship for both and it seems that I'm rusty on the guitar because my arm would occassionally forget what I was strumming. Whoops! I think the only one who really noticed was me though...
I also met a prospective candidate for Training College, Ashley, who also attended the War College in Vancouver - WOOT Canada! She and I were mutually happy to find a fellow Salvationist who wasn't American. It's funny because she is currently adjusting to the different perspectives on ministry and social services here in the Western Territory and very much like me when I first got here, she isn't sure how to react to the differences.
It was good to talk things over and know that God has placed us in our respective spots for a reason and that this is a time of stretching, growing and preparation for things to come. I have confidence that she'll make her mark on officership.
In the meanwhile, I am sick. AGAIN. So I'm taking tomorrow off and trying to catch up on some sleep. Friend Paul is boarding the plane back to Londy Londy London at this very moment - I WILL MISS YOU you stupid dummy-head!!! hee hee ; P
