Run Ins
So today was full of interesting run-ins.
I witnessed one of our volunteers get pushed (two hands and real hard) by a person trying to run off with more bread than he was supposed to take. It was a bit shocking and at the same time I wondered if the man himself was in desperate need for all the bread - because all he had to do is tell us and come back the next day for more. Due to this stint, he will no longer be able to come back more any. Sad really.
I met and interviewed a lady for our harvest festival who will be doing a puppet show for the kiddies. She's overly stressed from lack of work and a son who is driving her up the wall. Due to the stress she had 2 cigarettes in the span of our 20 minute meeting. I find that although I'm truly sympathetic to her stress and felt compelled to pray for her (and continue to for that matter), I also found that my tolerance for cigarette smoke is waaaaay lower than ever. I felt quite sick leaving her home to be honest.
I was handing out flyers to some local agencies and food banks for our kettle season as we need workers. By chance I bumped into a friend I made last Christmas while we fussed, nursed and wept over our friend Richard. It was wonderful to see her again.
We had a child of a client run by a volunteer, just outside the office. The child was running away from his mom (who was not in sight), and the volunteer was trimming the hedges with big gardening shears. They ran into each other and the child came out of it with a sliced T-Shirt sleeve and a scratch on his upper arm. I walked in on the part when the mom was extremely mad, the volunteer apologetic but upset that the child would run rampant (he was 12 and old enough to know better), and the boy who was just shaken up by the whole thing. I truly hope everything goes ok.
