Don't Make Big Plans
Oddly enough, a man started to chat me up in the the laundry room of our complex today. After talking for a few minutes and awkwardly trying to put my unmentionables in the wash oh so discreetly - we ended up talking about the housing market in the Bay Area.
I said I'm not sure where I'll end up, buying a home here or elsewhere and if it's even worth it. He then went on a rant about what my heart desires and that I should think about what I really want, investments or a home. It was kind of pushy to be honest and I really didn't feel like delving into why I think Toronto is home to me, etc...That conversation could go on forever.
As I began to walk out of the room, he yelled after me, "WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T MAKE ANY BIG PLANS FOR THE FUTURE THAT YOU MAY MESS UP."
Hmmmm - I would have to firmly disagree. Of course our plans in comparison to God's plans can mess up. It happens daily to some. However, NOT making big plans at all seems pretty lame to me. God's given us intelligence, personalities, and the ability to hope and dream - thus leading to me wanting to make big plans in my life. Home, Work, Family, Relationships, Ministry and then some.
I want to honour God in my life and therefore He is a big part of my "plans" and I initiate and do all I can to make these plans and hopes come true. Should he decide that my plans are not his plans - well then I guess that is fine by me. At least I'll know that I've done what I can, and He's doing what is best for me. He's got my back after all =P.
