Not Feelin' Fine

I'm back in the office after 2 days away. Last Thursday I was sick and so I tried to rest and even missed out on our Cal Train Holiday Train event on Saturday. Andrew went to play the trumpet while I slept the evening away at home. On Sunday I felt better and was up for the train so decided to go with Andrew to SF.

It was going so well until it started raining - First stop, San Fran.
We play on a car that is converted into a giant open top stage with lights, sound system, risers, etc. It's for The Salvation Army and along the line between San Fran and San Jose, we stop at every other station to play and sing for the masses with Santa, Frosty and Rudolph in tow. Each corps in the Bay area is assigned a stop over the weekend and they stand there with barrels for toy donations that will go to families who are getting assistance from our social services outreach for Christmas.

Anyway, it poured EVERY stop along the way except for the very last stop. I couldn't believe it. My friend Jen was playing the tuba and she kept having to dump all the water out of her bell because it kept filling up!

On the way back, there was one stop to let off all the carolers, and then half way to SF, we stopped completely. Someone had had too much to drink and tried to drive his car across the tracks. Since the tracks were high up, he never made it to the other side and got stuck on the rails. Thankfully we found out before it was too late but were stopped for another hour waiting for the cops to figure out how to yank him off the rails.

Needless to say, we got into San Fran at midnight and Andrew and I drove home only to get home at 1am. That cold that I thought I had fought off came back with a vengance. I've spent the last two days in bed sick and now am back in the office with no voice. I sound lovely.

Lesson of the day, no matter how much Christmas cheer you've had, there is no excuse for parking on the railroad tracks.
