Richard Charles Pavian
Bob has a name - Richard Charles Pavian
Richard Charles Pavian passed away Saturday, December 15th in the morning at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California. He suffered one more massive heart attack and there was nothing that the doctors could do to help his heart recover this time.
I cried bitterly - mostly because I have not been able to visit him to say goodbye.
I have a card in my bag signed by all of us from the church and our bell ringers wishing him the best and that he would get well soon.
I have realised that although I am so heart broken that I will not see him again in this lifetime - I'm so happy that he knew the Lord and that he will never be "homeless" again. If anything, he is home now and he can converse with the greatest minds this world has ever known and will be able to feel the warmth and see the face of the Lord Almighty.
Richard's mother was a librarian at a university - I forget which. She sparked his interest in libraries and learning.
He asked me to watch Chinatown, and two more movies which I'll probably remember after posting this blog. He wanted to know my opinion of them.
The last time I saw him, we had just gotten back from bell ringing. We made scrambled eggs and toast which he also polished off with a small bowl of kimchi - he loved kimchi because one of his friends at Penn State University had lived in Korea and so they'd eat rice, kimchi and spam in the dorms late at night after or while studying.
Captain James was there too and while we ate, he played edelwiess. Richard sat quietly with his hands folded on his lap, eyes closed and listening to the piano.
These are words that I found to the same song that have been used for church benedictions in America - I find them fitting.
"May the Lord, mighty God,
bless, preserve you and keep you.
Give you peace, perfect peace,
courage in every endeavor.
Lift up your eyes and see His face,
and His grace forever.
May the Lord, mighty God,
bless, preserve you and keep you!"
I am going to be helping clean out Richard's storage space that he rented out. It's not much, but I feel like it'll at least be a way for me to say goodbye to him.
