Reformat or Bust
I've got to say that although I do spend most of my time on the computer...I hate it. Not so much because of what I can do with it because obviously it helps me pass the time away at work, lets me do my ranting and raving about things that are so trivial, and allows me to squeeze in some shopping therapy at 2am. Hey, you've all done it too so don't pass your judgement on me!
Why do I hate it so? Well, my laptop...which is over 4 years old now has been slowly dying. Of course, right after the 3 yr. product service plan from Future Shop goes null and void! This is always my luck. Also, I can't-for-the-life-of-me find the original Windows XP cd it came with so I've got the bootleg version and I've been busted by the stupid security update which I failed to read while downloading and installing updates. OOPS. Luckily I'm going to be marrying Super-computer man so he managed to fix that up for me. Thanks hun! The laptop is still dying though...the CD burner can read CD's and DVD's but can't burn jack-squat. I have a panel on the top of the exterior that has lost it's screw (I attribute this loss solely to my dearest sister) and continues to fall off at any given moment, exposing some sort of electronic board. The battery lasts 3.5 whole minutes and the USB port reads so slow...slower than my grandmother who is not with us anymore (bless her soul). In one word...ghetto. I've had to reformat for over two years now but seriously, I hate it and it takes bloody long.
So I've been relying on the strength of my work computer. My PC which was going strong all this time until Monday. I'm doomed! Our entire office staff seemed as if they were going to hang our IT department for installing a new server over the weekend. Apparently, old computers, computers with no updates and my computer (I still don't know why) do not like it when you do this. Anyway, long story short, I was out of commission for one whole day. Every one's computers are fixed except for mine and the only option we can think of now is to REFORMAT. EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..............and so my lazy streak ends. Reformat. Both at home and at work. Words can not express how much this sucks.
On the other hand, it does bring me to a different thought. Wouldn't it be cool if we could reformat our lives. Dang. Or even a "System Restore". You know when your computer saves the settings of your system on specified days that you choose or even randomly choose? I would totally system restore to the days where William, Richard and I would torment Kristen, chasing each other around the neighbourhood on our bikes...or to the moment when I was given the choice to skip a grade or not. I would have totally not taken it the second time around. Things i would do a second time around: Workcamp in Gary, Indiana. Organizing a crazy food drive that got us on CityTV. Starting a Billy Graham Cheer and Chant at his conference. Or maybe back to volleyball championships, field hockey in Scotland, softball in spring...yes, this is all I did in high school! Thankfully there are some truly amazing moments that stick out in my mind and for that I am grateful because God has been good to me.
I would not consider this pending reformatting of both computers to be one of those moments though. For now, maybe I'll defragment my computer and see how much time that buys me for now. Man, all this computer talk is a bit scary. I think I'm beginning to sound like Andrew...please...somebody...if I start to bob my head when I play the guitar, just deck me ok?
