Getting on with the New Year

It’s funny that people are asking me if I’m relaxing now that the Christmas season is over – I’m far from relaxing – that’s for sure! I am finally able to focus my attention on the youth ministry at the corps and within the community and still things keep coming up and it’s going to be a doozie trying to juggle my course readings for Systematic Theology…I’m enrolled in a correspondence course at the moment at Tyndale Seminary.

Andrew unfortunately has been quite sick – he got the flu/severe cold last week and is now on the path to recovery. I’ve been playing nurse and thankfully everything’s getting better. This is what happens to your body when you work from 9am – 4am. Yikes!

Kristen was here for a brief stint on her way back from Singapore – it’s pretty funny that she got nothing but rain for the duration of her stay. Nevertheless we had fun in Tahoe skiing & snowboarding with the church youth. Never have I been so happy to see snow! I almost kissed the snowy white ground because for the first time since I’ve been here, I actually believed it was winter.

I’ve never had the chance to ski on anything really high before and since I’m getting increasingly scared of heights – it was a bit freaky to be going on this super high lift for 10 full minutes! Thank goodness they didn’t stop the lift while I was on it – just when we were getting off thanks to Kristen crashing into me =P

Lessons learned:
I’m out of shape.
I’m getting old.
I’m becoming increasingly paranoid of heights.

On another note, some funny things that I heard over the holidays when out wearing my Salvation Army apparel:

“The Salvation Army?! I love your store! I buy all my clothes there and you have some great stuff!”

“The Salvation Army is a great organization” says a person.
“It’s actually a church” says I.
“No seriously” says the person.

“You work for The Salvation Army? Is that a good company to work for? Because I’ve been thinking of switching jobs…”
Hahahaha – that was my favourite one this year.

Top 5 Weird things found in the Kettles this year

4. Korean Coins – Won

2. Receipt for a large purchase at Best Buy (I hope they don’t need that one back)
